As the newly reappointed Metropolis Philoptochos President, it is my pleasure to communicate with you as I begin my new term. The White Dove provides an excellent opportunity for us to share with one another our accomplishments, hopes and dreams for the new two years.
The Metropolis of Atlanta Philoptochos serves our Holy Greek Orthodox Church with great distinction. The commitment of our Philoptochos members to God and the Greek Community is reflected in the dedication and hard work they have put into many lasting accomplishments in our Metropolis.
“How wonderful it was for us to come together in one faith, as one family united and inseparable that renewed our faith and helped us preserve our Holy Orthodox Church…”
The Metropolis of Atlanta Philoptochos held our Clergy Laity/Philoptochos Conference in Columbia, South Carolina, June 24 – 26, 2015. Holy Trinity’s dedicated women gave a lot time and effort in their planning to make the conference an enjoyable and memorable one that we will not forget for years to come. How wonderful it was for us to come together in one faith, as one family united and inseparable that renewed our faith and helped us preserve our Holy Orthodox Church and Philoptochos.
We prayed that God would lead us and guide us as we worked together to accomplish even greater achievements than ever before. We faithfully convened, to participate in creative dialogue, to select a new Metropolis Board, to challenge our spirit and to share our love under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We opened our hearts with love for one another as we embarked on the Clergy – Laity Assembly and Philoptochos Conference. We participated in many activities, such as meetings, general assemblies, workshops and special events.
In addition to our business agendas, the Philoptochos spirit shined once more through our charitable efforts. At this year’s conference, we recognized Zoe for Life. We were proud to promote and support this most worthy organization.
Through our Metropolis of Atlanta board and chapter monetary donations and gift cards, we were blessed to be able to make a generous gift to Zoe For Life. This donation was made possible because of the dedication, commitment and hard work of our beloved Philoptochos sisters in Christ. We are a dedicated society, committed to continuing our role of supporting our Orthodox family in a meaningful way.
Also, the Metropolis Philoptochos would like to thank the Chapter President Joanne Hartung, from Tampa, Florida for her generous gifts of assorted baby items to make the luncheon centerpieces. These beautiful centerpieces were also donated to Zoe for Life.
“The Metropolis of Atlanta can always count on the women of Philoptochos to sustain the ministries of our church.”
Our other guest speakers at the luncheon were Despina Koulianos and Pamela Copsis, who spoke about our Metropolis of Atlanta Autism and Special Needs Camp held Memorial Day weekend at the Diakonia Center. Through our Chapter’s generous donations and individual donations we were able to host this camp at no cost to all the families who attended.
St. James, in his Epistle Chapter 1, verse 22, exhorts all Christians to be “Doers of the Word, and not hearers only”. The members of Philoptochos are “doers”. Our diligent labors have made our Society a powerful force in the Greek Orthodox Church. We, the ladies of Philoptochos are the “doers” of our church.
The Metropolis of Atlanta can always count on the women of Philoptochos to sustain the ministries of our church. Our record is testimony enough. The hierarchs and the clergy of our church can always look to Philoptochos for support and encouragement.
May God bless all of you as we serve Him through Philoptochos.
With Love in Christ,
Dee Nicolaou, President
Metropolis of Atlanta Philoptochos
